Who We Are
Quincy Community Theatre (QCT) has been delighting audiences with musicals, mysteries, comedies, and dramas since 1923. Originally named the Quincy Community “Little” Theatre, we became Quincy Community Theatre in the spring of 1995 after the completion of its new facility at 300 Civic Center Plaza. The 498-seat theatre was dedicated on September 8, 1995.
Current offerings include four adult productions, four student theatre productions (including one touring show) and three semesters of educational offerings for students age 3 through adult.
We are a volunteer based organization, welcoming participants from all walks of life, coming together as a community to fulfill our mission statement listed below:
To offer and perpetuate quality theatre entertainment and education through community participation.
What We Do
Being a part of a QCT production is a HUGE commitment, but the reward is worth it. You will collaborate on a high-caliber, polished production. To achieve this, you will:
- be expected to work outside of scheduled rehearsals on lines, music and choreography
- attend all scheduled rehearsals ready to begin on time
- be willing to step outside of your comfort zone in rehearsals and try different things
- stay quiet when another is talking
- show respect to all members of the company
If this kind of commitment and collaboration excites you, come audition at QCT!
Auditions:
Unless previously announced, all roles are open for casting. No previous theatre experience is necessary in order to participate at QCT.
When auditioning, actors will fill out an audition form listing preexisting conflicts. Rehearsals may be scheduled around those conflicts if actors are up front about them during the audition process.
The initial audition for a musical is often an individual appointment where the actor sings and reads for the director, vocal director and choreographer. The initial audition for a play is often a small group appointment where six to eight actors audition together reading a variety of roles opposite one another.
Sometimes shows have a callback audition where an actor is asked to come back for further auditions. This may include reading and/or singing for specific roles as well as performing a dance combination. You will be informed what is required and what to prepare. Not getting a callback does not mean that you have not been cast, and getting a callback does not guarantee that you are cast in a show.
Rehearsals:
Rehearsals for adult productions will be held anywhere between the hours of 6pm-10p Monday-Friday. Actors may not be called for every rehearsal or for the full length of a rehearsal until the final weeks. Some weekend rehearsals may be required.
Cast members are allowed two excused absences from rehearsal. NO UNEXCUSED ABSENCES WILL BE ALLOWED. Two weeks before tech, actors cannot miss any rehearsal.
The weekend before a show opens is "tech." Sound, lights and costumes are added then. These are long rehearsals, and everyone is needed.
Cast must attend all performances. There are no understudies.
You may be asked to provide supplementary costume pieces such as undergarments, socks and shoes, but QCT does not ask actors to but anything or make a financial contribution in order to participate.
